The Joy of Being Unapologetically, Wonderfully Me—Or You!

So, I turned 75 the other day. And frankly? I never thought I’d make it to three-quarters of a century. I’m that much of a klutz!

In a way it’s kind of fabulous—the kind of fabulous that comes from realizing I have absolutely nothing left to prove. I’m done auditioning for anyone else’s version of me.

At 75, it’s time for the masks to come off—and not the sparkly kind I wear at Halloween. I mean the invisible ones we’ve all worn: the “I’m fine, really” mask, the “I’m not that weird” mask (I never really made that one work), the “sure, I’ll pretend I like small talk” mask. Off they go. Every single one. At least that’s my intention.

Now I wake up and ask, “What do I feel like creating today?” Sometimes the answer is painting faery landscapes. Sometimes it’s baking gluten-free bread. Sometimes it’s just sitting under a tree and reading a novel.

two walking sticks or hands in pockets?I ask myself, would it be more fun to take a walk with one walking stick or two—or freestyle with my hands in my pockets.

Just making a silly little choice like that can uplift my mood for the day.

Permission To Be Real

That’s a secret perk of getting older: you can give yourself permission to have fun all the time, not just sometimes.

Not that you couldn’t before, but there’s a certain sense of freedom in advancing years. I mean, who are you going to impress, anyway?

More and more, you start remembering who you were before the world told you who to be. The little girl who climbed trees and believed in magic? She’s still here—she just has better boundaries and more comfortable clothes. (My mom did love putting me in those scratchy dresses!)

You know how adults like to tell kids to “act your age,” as if there’s a guidebook somewhere telling us what each age should act like? I’m beginning to think that acting my age has little to do with propriety and a lot to do with having fun.

I want to act like whatever 75 acts like when you’re enjoying life, because joy is the fountain of youth. When you’re living in harmony with your own rhythm—Earth’s rhythm—the light shines right through you. Laugh lines, silver hair, that knee that never quite healed after multiple injuries—they’re not flaws, they’re glory marks. At least I like to think so.

I’m grateful that I’m still standing. No drugs. No doctoring. No serious complaints of any kind.

I love mini orchidsI could do better, for sure. You know, get more exercise, sort through the rubber bands, orchid stakes, and twist ties in my catch-all drawer. Stuff like that. But sometimes I wonder if any of that even matters.

And, speaking of orchids, I love the mini ones that fit on my kitchen windowsill. They’re beautiful. The flowers last for weeks. They take hardly any care, and they re-bloom every year or so.

I’ve let go of the chase for perfection (it’s a bore anyway) and started chasing wonder instead. Wonder at how the full moon always shows up in a different spot on the horizon each month. Wonder at how love keeps multiplying no matter how much you give away. Wonder at how we can keep reinventing ourselves at any age, like the Earth renewing herself each spring.

Who Needs Perfection?

At 75, I’m not interested in fitting in. I’m interested in living authentically. Laughing often. Loving joyfully. Dancing freely. And being gloriously, unapologetically opinionated.

Because that’s what authenticity really is: the courage to shine without asking for permission.

When you love them, you don't eat them or force them to provide food for youIn case it wasn’t clear before I turned 75, let it be known that I support:

  • anything and everything that protects our precious planet, the water, the air, the soil
  • the rights of animals, forests and ecosystems to live in peace and harmony
  • kindness to all beings (I’m still working on getting there with things that suck my blood)
  • guaranteed food, shelter, education, and holistic health care for all people—especially children
  • freedom to speak, believe, or act in any way that doesn’t harm others or our planet
  • your right to choose differently

Does that make me a “bleeding heart liberal” or a snowflake? I’ve never been much for labels. I think it just makes me a compassionate person who wants to live in a world where we all take care of each other.

I believe in magic and use it every day. I believe consciousness flows through all things and everything is part of the sentient-oneness that I AM… and you are… and everything IS.

I listen to otherworldly guides and commune with faeries… and wish I could perceive them more clearly all the time, rather than just sometimes.

Let Life Flow

I love tapping into the flow of energy healing as it moves through my hands in my Reiki or Bars sessions. Creating art, whether manually or digitally has been a lifelong love affair. And writing is one of the most fulfilling occupations I’ve found. I do it just for fun… like now.

Look for the magic!

I love connecting with magical creative people who share my values.

I’d love to get to know you better 💞

So here’s my Enchanted Planet thought for the week:

Don’t wait until you’ve circled the sun seventy-five times to live like you mean it. Be wildly yourself now. Drop the masks, follow the sparkle, and let your inner child take the wheel for a while.

The world doesn’t need more perfect people. It needs more real ones.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with the sunset, a teacup full of starlight, and a few faeries who insist we celebrate properly.

You know birthday celebrations have to go on for at least a week, right?
