Ode to Arnica Montana—A Tribute to Homeopathy!

Enchanted Planet Blog

Two Unthinkable Things

Life was good—really good. It was the height of summer and every day felt like a warm hug. And then the unthinkable happened.

Then another unthinkable thing happened. The two unthinkables were connected, the second one following from the first.

Arnica Montana came to the rescue both times.

Granted, the first incident was beyond even the scope of Arnica’s healing powers. My son-in-law fell off a 150 foot cliff on the rugged Northern California coast. It took a few surgeries and several weeks in the hospital to patch him up. But I did give him homeopathic Arnica and I’m sure it aided his healing process.

It will be a few months before he’s back to anything like normal, but the doc’s say he should be fine eventually. It’s a miracle that he wasn’t permanently injured, paralyzed or killed! So we are all counting our blessings.

The Second Unthinkable Thing

Fast forward a month or so to my son-in-law recuperating at my house and my daughter being run ragged between caring for him, my grandson, their very energetic dog and her regular work schedule.

The culprit
The Culprit!

I try to help out when I can—and that’s how the second unthinkable thing happened yesterday. Their dog was restless and needed exercise and diversion, so I decided to take her for a walk.

No big deal, right? I’ve walked her many times before without incident.

Well, it turned out to be a very big deal, because the dog, being quite strong and easily spooked, happened to see a couple of people sitting on a bench up ahead. One of the people decided to stand up and suddenly the dog bolted in the opposite direction, pulling me down with a jerk and dragging me across the path into a blackberry bush.

Somehow I managed to hold onto her leash, but my entire left side was banged and scraped from foot to knee to ribs and shoulder. The bench people ran over to help me and the dog knocked the woman over and almost pulled the man down when they tried to hold onto her leash—like I said, she’s strong! The woman grabbed my hands to help me to my feet and I thought, as I often think when I injure myself, “It’s going to feel a lot worse tomorrow.”

Arnica Montana saves the day!

I thanked the kind couple and hobbled my way home, still in enough shock to numb the pain a bit, put the dog on a tie down to keep her out of mischief and went straight to the bathroom to bandage my cuts and take a dose of homeopathic Arnica.

The Good News

Though the pain did get quite a bit worse as the evening wore on into the night, I didn’t resort to pain killers of any kind, just repeated doses of Arnica whenever I woke up and lots of reiki on my bruised (and possibly broken) ribs.

What do you know? Aside from my yanked shoulder feeling somewhat worse in the morning, the rest of me was feeling so much better that I could get up from the couch without involuntary yelps of pain.

Arnica flowers in handBy mid-afternoon, well… here I am sitting at my computer writing this blog post. Sure, I’m still sore and I have to stand up very slowly, but compared to last night I’m 90% better. And I really do owe it all to homeopathic Arnica, without which I’m sure I would still be wracked with pain.

People say homeopathy is a placebo or ineffective, because they can’t understand how it works, but I’ve had near miraculous results with several different homeopathic remedies over the years—like curing a nasty case of poison oak in fifteen minutes! When you experience results like that, any skepticism vanishes.

Note: The most impressive results happened with stronger remedies prescribed by a homeopathic doctor, rather than the over-the-counter remedies commonly sold in stores. Though, this time I just used the basic 12C and 30C doses.

Anyway, just for fun, I asked Chat GPT to write an ode to Arnica Montana. It had a lot more verses, but I’ve picked out the best ones. I think it’s kind of clever!
