Proof That the Universe Listens (And How You Can Test It Yourself)
I recently read E-Squared by Pam Grout — a playful, yet potent little book that offers nine “energy experiments” to prove your thoughts create your reality. It’s been around for a while, but every time I dip into it, I get reminded how powerful our minds are… and how easily we forget.
The whole premise is simple (and thrilling, if you really let it sink in): you live in a field of infinite potential, and your thoughts are like little tuning forks that pull experiences into form. Not someday, not maybe, but now. In real time.
And Pam doesn’t just tell you that — she invites you to prove it to yourself with fun, 48-hour experiments.
One Exercise That Always Sticks With Me
The first experiment is called The Dude Abides Principle — and it’s basically a cosmic test of whether the universe is paying attention. (Spoiler: it is.)
Here’s how it works:
You set a clear intention to receive a sign or blessing within 48 hours. Nothing vague. Ask for something unmistakable — like seeing a yellow butterfly in an unusual place, or receiving an unexpected gift. Then let it go. Don’t try to force it. Just watch.
The first time I tried it, I asked the universe for a “surprise gift” within 48 hours. I forgot about it completely… until two days later, a friend I hadn’t heard from in ages dropped off a bag of herbal teas “just because.” A small thing. But also… exactly what I’d asked for.
And the beauty is, these moments build trust. Not blind faith, but experiential knowing. It shifts something deep inside when you realize the universe is listening — and responding — to you.
Examples of a couple of other experiments in the book:
-
The Volkswagen Jetta Principle: Demonstrates how our focus and expectations can influence what we notice in our environment, such as suddenly seeing a specific car model everywhere.
-
The Abracadabra Principle: Encourages readers to manifest specific desires, reinforcing the idea that clear intentions can lead to tangible results.
Why I Love This Book
Pam writes with humor and zero fluff. She’s grounded, irreverent, and refreshingly un-mystical — which makes the book super approachable even for skeptics.
Each chapter is a new experiment, and you don’t need any special skills or spiritual background to try them.
It’s not about “getting things” — it’s about proving to yourself that your inner state is what shapes your outer world. And once you know that, you stop waiting and start creating.
So if you’re in a rut… if you need a jolt of inspiration… or if you just want proof that you’re not alone in this wild quantum dance — E-Squared is a great place to start.
And if you try one or more of the experiments, I’d love to hear what happens. Truly. The universe is always whispering. Sometimes, it just takes a game to remember how to listen.
