Your Spirit Guides Aren’t “Out There” — They’re Already Inside You

(A message from my guides)

This morning, as I zoned out in the shower, I asked how I could communicate more clearly with my spirit guides.

I felt their presence as I often do—and then the message dropped in, clear as a bell, playful as a faery, and loving as always:

“Your spirit guides and angels are not “out there.”
You have to expand your awareness of who you are to include them in your awareness.
As long as you are looking for them outside yourself, you will never hear them.”

And of course, I immediately thought: “Well, that explains a lot.”

Because duh! Many of us spend years searching the metaphorical skies like psychic astronomers, desperately hoping our guides or some external god or angel will send a message.

But the message my guides brought through was so simple. So obvious. So delightfully profound.

They’re not lost.
We are. Or more accurately, our awareness is in the wrong place.

The Old Paradigm: My Guides Are “Out There Somewhere”

If you grew up in any kind of spiritually-adjacent environment—religious, metaphysical, New Age, shamanic, faery-friendly, or otherwise—you probably absorbed some version of this idea:

Guidance comes from above… or “out there.”

As in:

• Angels hover in some cloud realm
• Guides live in the Otherworlds
• Higher beings whisper from another dimension
• God is in Heaven above
• The faeries are out frolicking in a distant glen waiting for us to catch a glimpse of them

But here’s what my guides told me:
The idea that your guides are “separate” from you is the very illusion that keeps you from hearing them—because NOTHING is actually separate from you.

They’re never far away.
It’s just that your awareness is currently operating like a flashlight instead of a sunrise.

You’re shining the little beam outward, scanning for clues… when the sunrise is waiting to happen within you.

When your awareness expands to include more of who you truly are—your multidimensional self, your subtle senses, your intuitive knowing—your guides suddenly stop feeling like elusive pen pals and start feeling like… well, part of your own consciousness.

They don’t stand beside you.
They arise within your expanded self.

The New Paradigm: Guidance Is an Inside Job

Here’s the image my guides gave me (and they do love their metaphors):

Imagine your awareness is a snow globe… or make that a glitter globe.
You’re inside it, looking out, waiting for some mystical visitor to tap on the glass.

But your spirit guides aren’t on the outside tapping.
They’re part of the glitter.
Part of the magic swirling inside the globe.

To hear them, you don’t crack open the glass—you expand your identity to include the whole globe.

Your awareness becomes:

• more spacious
• more porous
• more attuned
• more willing to feel reality instead of merely thinking about it

And that’s when their messages slip through—not as something foreign or external, but as a natural extension of your own inner knowing.

This is why so many ancient Celtic mystics described divine communication not as “channeling” but as remembering.
Not as “calling” but as listening.
Not as messages from above, but echoes of the soul.

If You Think You Can’t Hear Your Guides… You Already Have

Almost every person who joins my courses or circles says some version of: “I wish I could hear my guides better… or hear them the way other people do.”

And, if they keep searching long enough, they find themselves saying things like: “Oh… I think I am hearing them. I just didn’t know that’s what it was.”

Because here’s the secret:
Your guides rarely speak in the dramatic Hollywood-angel-voice kind of way (though on a few occasions I’ve heard something like that).

They speak through:

• nudges
• sensations
• sudden clarity
• ideas that pop in sideways
• the surprising “no” in your belly
• the unexpected “yes” that comes with goosebumps
• the moment you breathe deeper than usual and know exactly what to do next

One of the most fun and dramatic ways they communicate is through your passions. Those moments of enthusiasm, joy and blissful immersion in something you love are all whispers from your guides and angels telling you you’re on the right track.

Isn’t that awesome? LIFE is orchestrated to keep you on the path to your highest joy… if you just allow it to show you the way.

When you widen your awareness to include the Universe, you begin to realize that those subtle messengers were never separate from you.

They were the doorways.

And the doors.

And the guides.

The Real Work Is Expanding Your Sense of Self

I used to think hearing spirit guides required effort—trance, prayer, ritual, incense, the whole glittery toolbox.

But what my guides reminded me this morning was different:

“You don’t need to reach up or out.
You need to grow your awareness—into the truth of who you already are.”

Think of it like this:

If your current awareness is a single room, your guides live in the hallway right outside the door.

They’re not gone.
They’re not distant.
They’re literally right there.

But until you allow your awareness to expand to include the hallway, you can’t hear the party going on outside the door.

And my guides assured me—there is always a party going on out there.

This is the part where the faeries showed up—because of course they did—and nudged me to share what they always nudge me to share:

You expand your awareness through practice.
Simple practice.
Consistent practice.
Playful practice.

Not through forcing.
Not through begging the Universe for signs.
Not through chasing mystical fireworks.

But through:

• grounding into your body
• relaxing your energy
• reconnecting with nature
• clearing your emotional static
• practicing sensory expansion
• learning to recognize subtle communication
• trusting the gentlest hints of intuition
