How You Feel About Money Shapes the Way It Flows in Your Life
Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of people complain about how everything is getting more expensive and how money is “tight.”
I might even have been one of them.
It’s true. Things are getting more expensive. Last week it took $83 to fill up my gas tank, almost $30 more than it ever had before. That’s a big jump.
But… inflation has been with us for a very long time, so rising prices aren’t exactly new. For example, my parents bought a house in 1952 for $10K—today it’s worth $3.4 million. (If only they had lived long enough to reap those benefits.)
That doesn’t mean I need to clamp down and hang onto every cent I have. In fact, it may mean just the opposite. It’s time to open more. Trust more. And relax into the flow more than ever.
Right before I started writing this, I had one of those moments. I saw that a big bill was coming up and I felt a familiar tightening in my solar plexus.
My mind immediately jumped into worst-case-scenario land. What if I can’t pay my rent and I have to live under a bridge—or, heaven forbid, depend on the charity of others? What if all my work prospects fall through, or nobody can afford my services?

Try Turning the Tables
What if your what ifs were all positive, rather than the doomsday predictions our minds love to entertain?
What if you could find a way to relax that tight feeling in your gut and just appreciate this moment, which happens to be fairly comfortable and safe? There’s really no threat right this minute, is there?
Isn’t it strange how easy it is to forget NOW?
It happens to all of us. Rather than just enjoying the moment, we start focusing on what could go wrong later.
I’ve been there. Bills lined up like impatient solicitors at the door. Income trickling in, but not quite keeping pace with what’s going out. Checking account overdrawn.
But here’s the deal: it’s not the numbers themselves that shape your experience. It’s your response to them. And that goes for every aspect of your life—not just money.
Your Emotional Relationship with Money Runs the Show
We’re taught that money is purely practical—math, strategy, budgeting. And yes, those things matter.

But there’s another layer secretly running the whole show: your emotional relationship with money.
Every time you pay a bill, consider an expense, receive income, or make a purchase, you’re sending a signal. Not with your words—with your energy.
If your energy is tight, worried, or resistant, money won’t be able to flow. It’s like trying to pour water through a clenched fist.
But when you allow your energy to soften—when there’s even a hint of openness, trust, or appreciation—the channel widens. Money moves more easily.
What Happens When We Close Down Around Money
Closing down around money rarely looks dramatic. It looks like avoiding your bank balance, feeling irritated when paying for things, resenting expenses, bracing when bills arrive… and of course, worry.
It’s a subtle no. An unconscious resistance to the flow that’s already happening.

Because money is always moving. It circulates through your life constantly—coming in, going out, shifting forms. When we meet that movement with fear or dread, we interrupt the natural rhythm. We say, energetically, This isn’t safe. This isn’t good. We block the flow.
And money likes to flow where the path is open.
The Shift from Money Fear to Money Flow
The most powerful shift I’ve ever made with money wasn’t about earning more… though I did. It was learning how to feel differently about what I already had.
When a bill arrived, instead of tightening, I paused. Took a breath. And practiced something simple—a sense of appreciation that I could pay it. Even if it stretched me a little, or I needed a little more time. Even if it felt imperfect.
I let myself relax into the exchange: energy flowing out, making space for energy to flow back in.
And something surprising happened. The fear began to loosen. The dread softened. Money started showing up in unexpected ways—new clients, spontaneous ideas, small windfalls, perfectly timed support.
That’s what a healthier emotional relationship with money can do.

Why Enjoyment Is Magnetic to Money
This is the part that makes it fun and changes everything.
Enjoyment—of anything—is deeply attractive to money. When you enjoy the act of spending, the feeling of receiving, the simple experience of having what you already have, you create an open, welcoming field.
Even enjoyment like listening to music, walking in your neighborhood, or hanging out with a friend, will expand that welcoming field.
It’s definitely not about reckless spending or pretending everything is fine when it isn’t. It’s about allowing yourself to feel good with or without the presence of money. To let money be a source of pleasure, ease, even play.
Money thrives in environments where it’s appreciated… and it loves positive attention. (Yes, like everything else in this universe, it responds to attention.)
I Wrote My Money Magic Book When I Was Flat Broke
Here’s something I love sharing, because it still works.

I wrote Money Magic: 90 Days to Prosperity 25 years ago during one of those really tight periods. No job or prospects. Dwindling savings. Car falling apart. I didn’t yet have financial proof that I’d figured it out—but I knew I had to try something different.
So I started practicing exactly what I’ve shared with you here: softening my reactions, opening my heart, choosing appreciation wherever I could. And the book flowed out of that. Not from abundance in my bank account, but from abundance in my energy.
That shift became the foundation for a much greater trust in the flow—and a knowing that I will always have everything I need as long as I relax into appreciation and follow my passion.
Let Money Flow Like Breath
Money is meant to move—in and out, like breath, like the tide.
Imagine holding your breath every time you inhaled because you were afraid the next inhale wouldn’t come. That’s what fear around money does. It interrupts a natural cycle.
But when you trust the rhythm—when you allow the outflow without panic—you make space for the next inflow.

A Simple Practice to Open the Flow
The next time money moves in your life, whether it’s moving in or out, try this:
- pause
- notice your immediate reaction
- drop into this now moment
Look for what’s working. Try appreciating something—anything. Even a small moment of enjoyment.
You don’t have to force joy. Just reach for a slightly more uplifted feeling.
Money doesn’t need perfection. It just needs permission.
Give it that, and you may find it starts showing up right when you need it—sometimes in ways you never expected.
Remember, as someone once told me, the world is awash with money. Billions and trillions of dollars. You deserve to receive as much as you need to thrive, just because you are alive and part of this energetic universe.
So don’t cut yourself off with self-fulfilling doomsday prophecies. Open to the flow that is your birthright. Receive. Allow. Enjoy. And let that fuel your creative spark—the you that wants and needs to shine in this world.
